Kolkata, May 6, 2026: Post-election violence continues to grip West Bengal following the Assembly election results. In a shocking incident, Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant (PA) to senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Kolkata’s Madhyamgram area.
Rath, who had been a close aide to Adhikari for over 10 to 12 years, was reportedly traveling in a black Scorpio in the Doharia area when bike-borne attackers intercepted the vehicle. According to police sources, the attackers fired four bullets at him from close range, resulting in his immediate death.
Police teams from the Madhyamgram and Airport police stations reached the spot immediately and have launched an intensive investigation, focusing on CCTV footage to identify the culprits. This killing marks the fifth murder reported in the state in the last 24 hours amid widespread post-poll clashes.
