New Delhi, May 25, 2026: With mercury soaring across large parts of the country, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has moved swiftly to protect the interests of NEET UG aspirants. In a letter addressed to Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, and Administrators of all States and Union Territories, Pradhan has sought full cooperation to ensure the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination on June 21 is conducted smoothly, transparently, and without any inconvenience to students.

The move comes amid concerns over the ongoing heatwave conditions and follows the cancellation of the original May 3 examination due to allegations of question paper leak.

Key Directives in Pradhan’s Letter

In his communication, the Education Minister has specifically requested state governments to issue immediate instructions to district authorities and institutions hosting the examination. The focus is on providing basic amenities at every exam centre, including:

  • Safe and clean drinking water
  • Adequate seating arrangements
  • Functional fans and coolers
  • Clean washrooms
  • Shaded waiting areas
  • Uninterrupted electricity supply
  • Portable toilets, wherever required

Pradhan also emphasised the need for adequate transportation facilities for candidates on the day of the exam, stating that the well-being and convenience of students remain the top priority.

Restoring Trust After Cancellation

The original NEET-UG 2026 exam, held on May 3, was cancelled on May 12 following reports of alleged irregularities and paper leak. The CBI is currently investigating the matter. The re-examination has been scheduled for June 21, 2026.

In his letter, Pradhan expressed confidence that all states and UTs would extend full cooperation to conduct the re-examination in a fair, transparent, and student-friendly manner.

“In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, I request you to kindly issue appropriate instructions to the District Authorities and all schools, colleges, universities, and other institutions hosting the examination… to ensure the availability of essential basic amenities for the convenience of candidates,” Pradhan wrote.

A Student-Centric Approach

The Minister’s proactive step signals the government’s intent to restore confidence among the over 20 lakh aspirants and their families. By focusing on both logistical comfort and exam integrity, the Centre is aiming to send a clear message: the future of young medical aspirants will not be compromised due to administrative lapses or weather challenges.

Education departments across states are expected to begin preparations immediately to comply with the Centre’s directions.
