Ahmedabad, April 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert across Gujarat, warning that the current spell of rain is only the opening act of a bigger weather drama. For the next 48 hours, most parts of the state are likely to be lashed by heavy showers, strong gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes.

From the arid plains of Kutch in the north-west to the tribal hills of Dahod in the south-east, and from the industrial hub of Rajkot to the cultural heart of Vadodara, the IMD has forecast thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds and lightning. Officials say the sky could open up again over large swathes of the state, bringing sudden downpours that may disrupt daily life and outdoor activities.

IMD Director A.K. Das confirmed the alert, stating that except for Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, rain is possible in every single district of Gujarat today and tomorrow. He specifically listed high-probability areas including Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Morbi and Surendranagar.

Farmers, commuters and coastal residents have been advised to stay alert, keep electronic devices away from windows and avoid open fields during thunderstorms. Local administrations are on standby to tackle any water-logging or wind-related damage.

This fresh spell comes just days after the first round of pre-monsoon activity caught many off guard, and meteorologists say the atmosphere remains highly unstable.

Stay safe, Gujarat – the sky isn’t done yet.
