Vadodara city is ranked 20th in the smart city rankings. While Surat is in the first place and Ahmedabad is in the fourth place. Earlier, Vadodara was in the top-10, which it has now fallen behind.
A total of Rs. 215 crore projects are to be undertaken in Vadodara under Smart City. Out of which 3 projects have been completed. While work on 12 products is in progress and tender process has been done in 7.
Cities were ranked every year when the Smart City project began. The rankings were then given every 6 months and thereafter every Friday. Now the work related to the project, use of funds, tender process, etc. is being uploaded on the Smart City portal so the ranking is constantly changing.
Surat and Ahmedabad are one year ahead of Vadodara in smart city selection, so its projects started a year earlier than Vadodara and are completed sooner than Vadodara.
Smart City projects are largely infrastructure-based and will take a break on such projects as the monsoon begins.
There are three types of projects in Smart City, 1000 crore projects, PPP-based and grant-based. The central government`s contribution in this project is 20 percent, the state government`s 3 percent, and Vadodara Corporation`s 5 percent.
