Tripura Assembly polls: Stage set for Tripura polls, 259 candidates in poll fray

Guwahati, Feb 15:  The 60-member Tripura assembly will go for polls on Thursday amid tight security. The polling will be held between 7 am to 4pm.

A total of 3,337 polling stations are there out of which 1,100 were identified as sensitive and 28 as critical.

The Tripura Chief Election Officer(CEO) said, “As many as 31,000 polling personnel and 25,000 security personnel of central forces are ready to conduct the election in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Besides, 31,000 employees of the state armed police and the state police will be deployed to maintain law and order,”.

The Tripura assembly polls will have a tringular contest between the BJP-IPFT alliance, CPI-M-Congress combine and the Tipra Motha.

Meanwhile, polling officials have already reached the polling station for tomorrow’s poll.

The international border between India and Bangladesh weas sealed to prevent trouble mongers from entering the state.

The  official said a total of  28.13 lakh voters including 13.53 lakh women will decide the fate of 259 aspirants of whom 20 are women.

The BJP is contesting in 55 seats, its ally will contest in six seats while there will be a friendly fight in ine seat.

Similarly, the CPI-M  is contesting in 47 seats while its alliance partner Congress is fighting in 13 constituencies. The Tipra Motha has  fielded 42 candidates.

The Trinamool Congress has fielded nominees in 28 constituencies while there are 58 independent aspirants.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is contesting  from the Town Bardowali constituency, while Union minister Pratima Bhowmik is contesting from Dhanpur from BJP ticket. CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chadudhury, who is the face of the Left-Congress combine, is fighting from the Sabroom assembly seat.

“We are excepting a fight between the three parties. This time we will vote for development because our state remain backward and neglected for several years. We want development of our state and decided to vote for the party which will bring development in our state,” said a voter of Agartala.
