Mumbai: Central Railway has recorded growth in suburban passenger transportation earnings during the current financial year (FY) up to November 2024.
“The suburban passenger transportation earnings increased by 5.63%, rising from Rs 604 crore in the same period last year to Rs 638 crore this year. A total of 936 million suburban passengers were transported during this period, compared to 918 million last year” said an official.
In total passenger earnings, Central Railway achieved Rs 4,966 crore up to November 2024, compared to Rs 4,699 crore in the corresponding period last year, marking a growth of 5.68%. This also includes Rs 4,328 crore from non-suburban passenger transportation, which rose by 5.69% from Rs 4,095 crore last year.
According to CR, passenger numbers also saw growth, with 1,064 million passengers carried this year till November, up from 1,039 million during the same period last year, registering a 2.35% increase. This included 127 million non-suburban passengers, up by 5.61% from last year’s 121 million, and 936 million suburban passengers.
“In November 2024 alone, Central Railway carried 138 million passengers, including 122 million suburban and 16 million non-suburban passengers. The total earnings for November stood at Rs 554 crore, comprising Rs 470 crore from non-suburban transportation and Rs 84 crore from suburban transportation” further stated official.
