GUWAHATI, DEC 26: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with acid by a businessman in Assam’s Sonitpur district.
The incident took place at 3 pm on Sunday when the woman was approached by the accused on a road at Rakhyasmari in Dhekiajuli and threw acid on her.
Speaking to media persons, Sonitpur SP Sushanta Biswa Sarma said, “Both, the accused and victim are known to each other. The accused, who is married, was in a relationship with the woman, who is unmarried. They also had some differences over money,”.
According to police, the woman was admitted to a hospital in Tezpur and her condition is stable.
Police said that the accused businessman, identified as Vatsu Kar, was arrested on Monday and an investigation into the matter has been launched.
According to sources, Vatsu brought the reactive chemicals in a bottle and throw it on the woman. The victim received severe acid burn inhuries in several parts of her body including her hand, leg, neck, back, head and hair.
Local MLA and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Irrigation in Assam took stock of the situation and as ked the authorities to take stringent action regarding the incident.
Last year, two woman were injured in acid attack in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. Later, police arrested the person for allegedly poring acid on them.
