Assam : Tezpur University’s student found dead under mysterious circumstances in hostel room; SP says prima facie food poisoning

Guwahati: A fourth semester post graduate student from Tezpur University in Sonitpur district who was a resident of Bordubi Tea Estate under Doomdooma police jurisdiction in Tinsukia district of upper Assam was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his hostel room on Thursday morning.

The body of the student has been identified as Nilotpal Gogoi ,belonged to the Environmental Science department and was found lifeless at the CV Raman hostel.

Sonitpur superstitions of police Sushanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday evening said that it may be a case of food poisoning prima facie about the boy who was found dead in his hostel room on Thursday morning.

Talking to OUR INDIA over phone, Sarma said , ” No one has been held so far . Prima facie it’s a case of food poisoning. Postmortem is being done. The family members of the deceased are here . “

” We are investigating the case from all possible angles. Updates would be provided to media soon. ” SP added .

The authorities at the Tezpur University took immediate steps and informed the police officials to carry out a through investigation to ascertain the cause of the student’s death.

Last year also a student of the University commited sucide at his hostel room He was a final year student of B.Tech and a boarder of Patkai Hostel. The deceased was found hanging at his room .

Similar incident happened in 2018 also, when two students of Assam universities found dead in mysterious circumstances- one was of Guwahati university and another of Tezpur University.

The Students Organization has demanded a proper investigation in this case and feared if such incidents continue how the guardians will dare to send their ward to study abroad in hostels for higher education.
