Assam: Dibrugarh University students kills in accident, 4 injured admitted at hospital

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a student of Dibrugarh University reportedly list his life, while four others sustained injuries in a road accident in Jamugurihat of Sonitpur, Assam.

According to reports, the accident took place early Saturday morning when a Swift Dzire vehicle(AS01BG9710) collided with a dumper truck from behind at a high speed.

The deceased student has been identified as Luku Sharma.

According to police, the vehicle was travelling from Dibrugarh district to Mangaldai when the accident happened in the Dhalaibari area of Jamugurihat.

The injured individuals were immediately rushed to Dhalaibil Primary Health Centre for medical attention.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday shared figures of number of accident cases in the state for the month of June 2023 as compared to last year’s figures, thus expressing concerns over the rising trend.

Deeply concerned over the rising number of accident cases, CM Sarma took to Twitter and shared the figures stating, “In June 23, the number of road traffic accidents increased compared to June 22. There were a total of 555 accidents, compared to 500 in June 2022. Additionally, the number of fatalities increased to 255, compared to 235 last year. I am deeply concerned”.
