Assam: ACMS to launch protest on August 11 across tea estates for their various demand

DIBRUGARH: The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) on Monday announced to launch one hour protest on August 11 in every tea estates across the state against their various demand.

Addressing a press conference here, ACMS president Paban Singh Ghatowar said, “On August 11, we will launch one our protest programme in every tea estates across the state to press for our demand and submitted memorandum to chief minister regarding our long pending demands,”.

“We demand to increase the minimum wages of tea garden workers upto Rs 351 and the wages for the small tea garden workers should be Rs 232, which was already notified but still they are not getting due to failure of Social welfare department of Assam,” Ghatowar stated.

Ghatowar further added, “In 60 % of the tea gardens hospitals, their is no doctors. Their is a huge scarcity of doctors and medical staffs in the garden hospitals. The tea garden hospitals are also in a pathetic condition. We demand to repair the hospitals and recruit nurses, medical staffs and doctors in the garden hospitals,”.

“A total of 112 Adivasi communities are residing in Assam from a long time but still they have not got the Schedule Tribe (ST) status. We urged the government to bring them under the purview of ST. In other states, they enjoy the ST status,” former Union minister asserted.

He said, “We demand to provide land pattas to the Adivasi people of Assam. The state government should take necessary step to provide land pattas to the land less people,”.
