Ahmedabad, June 4, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its four candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections from Gujarat. The party has fielded Rajubhai Shukla, Mukesh Rathva, Man Singh Parmar, and Jitendra Kanjhariya to contest the seats that will fall vacant on June 21, 2026.

The nominations come as the terms of four sitting members end: Rambhai Harjibhai Mokriya, Narhari Amin, Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil, and Ramila Becharbhai Bara. The Election Commission of India has scheduled polling for these seats — along with 20 others across nine states — on June 18, 2026.

With the BJP holding a massive majority of 156 MLAs in the 182-member Gujarat Legislative Assembly (against just 17 for the Congress), the party is widely expected to win all four seats comfortably. The winning quota for each Rajya Sabha seat in the state is approximately 37 votes.

These selections reflect the BJP’s focus on organisational loyalty and regional representation. Rajubhai Shukla, a senior party functionary associated with the Mehsana region, is among the key names in the list. The other nominees are expected to bring grassroots connect and community balance to Gujarat’s voice in the Upper House.

The announcement is part of a larger exercise by the BJP, which has also named candidates for Rajya Sabha vacancies in Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Rajasthan, and a bypoll in Odisha.

Rajya Sabha elections 2026 are routine yet significant, as they will shape the composition of the Council of States for the next six years. Gujarat’s strong performance in these polls will further strengthen the BJP-led NDA’s position in the national Upper House.

The last date for filing nominations is June 8, 2026. Given the current arithmetic, most observers expect the Gujarat seats to be decided without much contest.
